This weekend Chennai-based theatre group Evam’s latest compilation of Monty Python sketches ‘And Now for Something Completely Different!’ offered Bangalore incidental comedy and intentional hysteria created by three gifted actors who share a seamless and yet complex chemistry. Complementing Karthik Kumar’s high voltage star appeal is Sunill Vishnu K’s chameleon-like ability to become a crafty parrot seller or a Hollywood director polishing his knuckles in anticipation of a compliment. Then there is Karthik Srinivasan who can generate laughter with just a toss of his orange wig and the twitch of an eyebrow. We caught up with the actors to find out what makes them such a formidable team. Comedy is all about an exchange of energy.

UC Berkeley’s new Stanley Hall not your father’s ivory tower
San Francisco Chronicle – Sep 28, 2007
tmpl –> Costing $162 million the new Stanley Hall science center is perhaps the most expensive building ever erecteded on the Cal campus. The 11-story structure eight floors above ground and three below is located on the eastern edge of the main campus. It mixes researchers from biology chemistry physics math and other departments in a marriage between the work environment and the rapidly expanding frontier of bioscience that is gobbling up traditional disciplines like a giant hungry amoeba. “It really is a new paradigm for how to do interdisciplinary science” said Harrison Fraker dean of UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design and chair of the campus design review committee. The building which opened in April and is now about 80 percent occupied hosts some of the campus’ cutting-edge research in the new fields of biotech genome research nanotechnology and computational biology among others. In large measure the mission is to foster collaborative research that could lead to breakthroughs in combatting disease protecting the environment and producing cleaner energy. “This is the first building on campus where the decisions about space allocation are not controlled by an individual department or college” said Susan Marqusee professor of molecular and cell biology who is the faculty leader on the building organization.

Press-Enterprise – Sep 28, 2007
"That’s something we have to guard against" defenseman Chris Pronger said. "We have some injuries which is something we didn’t have last year. We have some new faces and we have to get that chemistry going that we had last year. " There are two key components for finding that all important winning chemistry. First there is the assimilation of new players into the locker room and lineup. The two biggest offseason moves by the Ducks were the acquisition of Schneider and veteran forward Todd Bertuzzi a former 50-goal scorer in Vancouver who is hoping to shake off injury problems while making a fresh start. "I’m looking forward to it" Bertuzzi said… The trio connected for three goals and nine points in a 5-0 win in the exhibition finale Sunday with plenty of apparent chemistry. If Ryan the second overall pick behind Sidney Crosby in the 2005 draft can continue to skate among the Ducks’ top six forwards the team will have at least partially bridged the gap caused by the loss of Selanne and Penner. The second aspect of developing successful chemistry involves moving existing players into new roles. With Niedermayer away and Schneider injured the Ducks defensemen will be asked to raise their games. "It has to be done collectively" Carlyle said. "bviously Pronger has to play a lot and he always does. (Sean) ‘Donnell with have to play to a higher level.
