K so I never was good at chemistry
Denver Post – Sep 30, 2007
Truthfully when I picked the Rockies to finish last in the NL West with 79 wins the tight bond of this loose confederation of players didn’t figure as prominently as it should have. The questions in the rotation and the improved pitching in the division convinced me that the Rockies would be better but struggle mightily in divisional road games against aces du jour. Colorado has handled those stars regardless of venue with alarming regularity one of several stigmas lifted this season. But what makes this team special goes beyond numbers. These guys like each other pull for one another.

And this team here as far as chemistry goes is definitely the best [of any] team I’ve ever been around. I think some of the teams I’ve had before were divided at times… I’ve been around a lot of teams. And this team here as far as chemistry goes is definitely the best [of any] team I’ve ever been around. “And I think who we have and how they play our chemistry our atmosphere which comes from the guys on this team is what definitely made the difference in pulling this off. I think some of the teams I’ve had before were divided at times. But this team right here is a team that stayed together. That was never how it used to be you realize. For years this was a team whose reputation was the mirror image of the 2007 version.

WhenEudora looks at Leo’s chest X-ray “he’dseemed truly transparent. ” Well yesexactly. Leo’s driving interest is organicchemistry which teaches him that “matterdoes not disappear and is not createdbut only undergoes various physical andchemical transformations. ” Miles is furtherembittered when a ship full of the fossilshe and his young friend had dug outof the hills of Alberta is torpedoed by aU-boat no doubt foiling England’s urgentwartime need for saurischia bones. At every turn Barrett feeds us historicaland scientific information as strictly asher TB patients are made to eat regularmeals. She forces on us a large chunk ofthe Zimmerman telegram and not one buttwo extended passages from the introductionto an actual chemistry textbook. She resorts to that hoariest of devices forproviding historical background repeatedlyhaving her characters chew over thenewspaper headlines… “) Then there is the device ofthe discussion group itself which enablesthe amazingly erudite sanitarium inmatesto lecture us on any number of subjectsincluding local experiments in communalliving socialism poison gas the science ofcinematography and that creaky literarywar horse Einstein’s theory of relativity. Barrrett’s characters add still more tothis avalanche of tangential informationthrough their words and thoughts. “I was6 when the Roentgen rays were discovered”Leo explains at one point and thewoman who runs the radiography labresponds “X-ray spectroscopy is reallyastonishing isn’t it?” Elsewhere Eudorareminisces about her high school chemistryclass: “I remember benzene though six carbon atoms?”There is a lot of this. And when Barrett’scharacters aren’t lecturing us onscience they speak in sentences heavywith sudden self-knowledge and an unlikelypoeticism. “If I found a flower thathad fallen from one of the tulip trees thatwas enough to make the whole day. The sight of the neighbor’s grayhorse” Naomi laments.

Favre saw that the Vikings were coming on an all-out blitz and called an audible so that tight end Donald Lee would run a clear-out route in the flat and open a window in which Favre could throw. It went like clockwork and with 10 minutes 4 seconds gone in the first quarter the Packers were up 7-0. “I’m not surprised I have the chemistry with him” Jennings said. “It’s one of the key routes in the offense period. It doesn’t matter what you run. If you can’t really capitalize on slants you’re not going to be successful and that’s a primary route in any offense. “And he throws a slant better than any quarterback I’ve seen.
