Mars mission: Let the science experiments begin
Tucson Citizen – Jun 7, 2008
The three samples will be scooped from very close together at a similar depth he said. The MECA optical microscope has already offered researchers the highest resolution images of dust and sand yet acquired from Mars. The wet chemistry lab has four teacup-size beakers that will be used to mix Martian soil samples with water. The resulting mixture will be analyzed to identify soluble chemicals such as salts Smith said. In addition to providing samples for testing the Lander’s robotic arm will be digging a trench deeper and deeper. "Our desire is to continue one of the trenches dig down to where we can’t go any deeper and get a sense of what our limits are" he said. Knowing how deep the planet’s expected ice is located will help researchers plan TEGA and MECA experiments for upcoming weeks he said.

They can just focus on their game. “Mike doesn’t get too high or too low either. The manager has something to do with that [chemistry]. His attitude filters down through the team. Obviously you come to play every day but there’s no sense of urgency — like you have to win that day. You do what you can today and then move on. He’s been steady with that.

Q&A with Dave Jageler

It’s a totally different far more relaxed pace in baseball than basketball so it really is two different ways to broadcast. MLB: You’ve worked in the booth with Slowes since you arrived in 2006 and you have great chemistry together. What makes your in-booth relationship work so well?Jageler: I think our chemistry was rolling from the very first Spring Training we worked together. It took maybe a game or two and I thought we hit it off well. We can finish each other’s sentences I know what he’s thinking he knows what I’m thinking. “I’d like someday there’s a whole generation of Nationals fans 20 years from now saying ‘Hey I listened to Charlie and Dave when I was a kid and now I’m listening to them as an adult and my kids are listening to Charlie and Dave. ‘”– Dave Jageler on establishing a longtime connection with fans We’re similar in that I think we both prepare diligently and care very deeply about the quality of our broadcast but yet we bring different styles to the table so I think for the listeners you can get a little bit of everything in our broadcast.

We had thought we were doing charity work but the Academy officers obviously didn’t share our ideals. We had been caught trying to help out another classmate pass his chemistry exam something he had failed to do twice already and this was his last chance to save himself from being expelled. The logistics of our rescue effort involved a wireless set improvised in the Sunday Hobbies Club a microphone concealed in a crepe bandage around the left elbow of our academically challenged friend and a Sanyo FM radio receiver. We were running our operation from the rooftop of a building next to the examination hall. We were caught red-handed whispering a reversible chemical equation into the transistor. We were in breach of every single standardoperating procedure in the Academyrule book and faced certain expulsion.

Veep hunt tops summer to-do list for Obama McCain

Are they out to offset their own perceived weaknesses or reinforce an area of strength? Are they looking for someone from a particular region or demographic niche? How much should personal chemistry count in the equation? It’s all about achieving balance. The end of the Democratic primary season this past week touched off considerable debate about the relative merits of an Obama-Clinton “dream ticket. ” Obama could decide to pick vanquished rival Hillary Rodham Clinton on the strength of her campaigning skills or steer clear of the political baggage she and her husband would bring. He could view adding her to the ticket as a way to reach out to women and unify the party or see her as a divisive figure who might turn away general-election voters. A similar balancing act will play out on the Republican side.

Veterans Day: Team-first Hasek Chelios should hoist Stanley with…
Detroit Free Press – Jun 7, 2008
“When we won the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh the first guy out of the chute is Chris Chelios” Holland said. “I think that’s why we’re the champions. You need talent but you need chemistry and you need people that are doing things in the best interest of the team. Dom and Cheli did that. And they’re two first-ballot Hall of Famers. “Osgood is unlikely to join Hasek and Chelios in the Hall. He’ll happily settle for finally being the Wings’ goaltender.

Keeping Beer Fresher
Science Daily – Science Daily (press release) – Jun 7, 2008
The research identified a group of poorly understood substances called alpha-carbonyls as important culprits in the decline in fresh flavor that occurs as beer ages. It also showed that levels of some of these substances could be reduced by adding ingredients that block their formation thus making beer taste fresher longer. Journal reference:Adriana Bravo et al. Formation of alpha-Dicarbonyl Compounds in Beer during Storage of Pilsner. Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry May 28 2008 [.
