— An Emory & Henry College chemistry professor whose research has contributed to efforts to detect cancer is the recipient of the 2009 Virginia utstanding Faculty Award given by the State Council on Higher Education in Virginia. Jim Duchamp who has been teaching chemistry at Emory & Henry since 1994 becomes the fourth E&H professor to win the award and his honor marks the 11th time in 20 years that an E&H professor has won a state or national teaching award. “Emory & Henry is tremendously proud of Jim and his much-deserved honor” said E&H President Rosalind Reichard. “As is true of so many of our excellent professors Jim has a tireless commitment to students and his teaching and his research have had an enormous impact on the lives of students and others beyond this community. ”Duchamp has performed extensive research in the use of endohedral fullerenes which are being developed for use as contrast agents in magnetic resonance images (MRIs) in the detection of tumors.
