Fuel Cell Works (press release)
The opening speaker Dr. John VanZee director of the National Science Foundation Center for Fuel Cellsat the University of South Carolina will provide an overview of state-of-the-artfuel cell and hydrogen research as well as present the analytical challengesfacing this field of research. In particular he will focus on opportunitiesfor analytical chemistry and measurement techniques in the developmentof cost-competitive Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) and FuelCell Systems. Cost competitive Fuel Cell Systems will require high-volumemanufacturing requiring adaptation of analytical and measurement techniquesfor this high speed production. In addition even with high volume productionthere is still a need for new materials that meet the efficiency durabilityand cost requirements for PEMFCs presenting challenges for assessing theirdurability. ther presentations include:Dr. Trung Van Nguyen director ofthe National Science Foundation Energy for Sustainability Program willdiscuss the research challenges and opportunities in the sustainabilityenergy area with an emphasis on hydrogen generation and storage and fuelcells.
