Texas Rangers hope team chemistry leads to hot start
Dallas Morning News
" Nothing has changed in the team’s approach. The Rangers are going to win by mashing the ball and putting dents into ERAs across the league. A fast start ultimately might be traced to a chemistry among the 2008 core that wasn’t disrupted by a roster overhaul. "You look around the locker room and I know everybody in here" Kinsler said. "Everyone in here for the most part we’ve already played together experienced the bad starts experienced the great middle of the season. We understand what it’s going to take for us to be the team that we want to be.

Love bacon? Blame it on chemistry …
Los Angeles Times
Apparently it's the Maillard reaction at work "a chemical reaction between an amino acid and a reducing sugar which often requires heat. The acid and sugar react to release a huge amount of smells and flavours" writes Alastair Jamieson in today's article. Translation? When you cook bacon the reaction between the fat and amino acids in the meat release smells and flavors that are almost impossible to resist. Well at least I now have some science to back me up next time I go on a shameless bacon binge. That brings me to No.

Area high school students participate in Chemistry Day
Washburn Review
substring(0 thispageresult. Schools from across the state sent students to learn and compete in the events that took place. Among those events was a standardized test from the American Chemical Society in which the top five participants which in some cases presented ties between students were given awards for their accomplishments. While one group of students took the test a second group of students was taken to Stoffer’s labs and research areas to get a look at what Washburn’s science and chemistry facilities have to offer incoming students. Many pieces of equipment were showcased in an application setting by current Washburn students while tours were given to the Chemistry Day guests.

Chemistry watch: Downey Jr. and Keener in “The Soloist”

When I watched “The Soloist” last week I was sometimes distracted at the way the two of them clicked — and since they’re playing ex-spouses wondering what on earth happened to this marriage. Were they too much alike? Was working together too stressful? Was her drinking problem (which we see a bit of in one scene) a contributor? When you spend this much time pondering the marital difficulties of a fictitious couple you know the acting’s spot-on. Looks like they’re going to rival Julia Roberts and Clive wen (in “Duplicity”) for my 2009 Best Movie Chemistry award at least so far. (Last year’s winners in my.

Logistics chemistry important for playgroup success
WRAL.com
At first glance playgroups are aimed at entertaining children but they often become a lifeline for stay-at-home parents. Because parents have so much invested in their playgroup finding the right group and keeping it running smoothly can be an important challenge. Logistics and chemistry play important roles in determining whether a group succeeds or fails but with the right balance it’s magic for everyone involved. Cathy Ward’s first playgroup convened when her oldest daughter was 6 months old. With these children now turning 5 its members are still connected and siblings have come into the picture. The parents make meals for each other babysit share clothes and carpool to preschool. “A successful playgroup will have moms that ultimately become friends and are there for each other” says Ward who coordinates playgroups for the Durham Mother’s Club.
