3 seed Pinole Valley (23-3) today at 4:30 at San Marin High in Novato for a North Coast Section Division II championship Malvino who has seen the program escape the dregs of a two-win season just six years ago believes team chemistry is nearly as vital as that talent. “We have quality players but a few years ago we had some pretty good players who didn’t get along” Malvino said. “The chemistry just wasn’t there. You don’t need the most talented team to have this happen. “Malvino likes his team as much for the cohesive way it plays together as for some of the guady stats posted by the starters. Montgomery defeated defending NCS champ Redwood 4-3 in 11 innings in its first playoff game and then edged Las Lomas 2-0 on the strength of a solo homer by sophomore Amanda Cuccaro and the pitching of junior Taylor Stroud. While attempting to claim its first NCS softball championship since back-to-back titles in 1978-79 Malvino has been maybe even more pleased with the subtle nuances displayed by his team.

The incident happened early Thursday at the Chemistry-BotanyBuilding. According to campus police authorities responded to a 911 callabout a person found unconscious in a locked room filled with achemical odor. A police officer unlocked the room and with the help of thecaller dragged the person out.

“All three of the guys — Billy Kunitz and Adams — they fit right into our locker room and we’ve had success ever since. “Guerin and Kunitz are linemates with Crosby. “I’ve been happy with it” Guerin said of his on-ice chemistry with Crosby. I think things have been going pretty well. It’s not a problem to adjust to his game. You just try to get him the puck as much as you can and get open for him and talk to him a lot.
